Review: ‘Every Open Eye’

“Every Open Eye” is Chvrches’ sophomore album and has an ‘80s synthpop vibe that makes for good driving music. I will admit, when I first listened to the band I was somewhat bothered by the lead singer’s voice, but Lauren Mayberry seems to work it to her advantage. I soon got over it because I enjoyed the peppy and electronic sound of the album. This new album has changed my perspective on the band and their music considering the uniqueness it offers. It is a one-of-a-kind album that will surely catch your ears attention.

“Get Away” stood out from the other 13 songs due to the fact that it was slower in comparison to their other songs and had depth to it. “Leave a Trace” is the most popular song from the album on iTunes and I can tell why: it’s catchy, upbeat and fun, one that you’ll play in the car or in your room with your friends and whenever you hear it you’ll be reminded of the good memories you have when that song was playing. It’s about a heartbreak that leaves you vulnerable but gives you a new perspective on life and relationships. The song I liked the least was “Bury It” because it sounded repetitive which made me cut off the song about 30 seconds in.

Thanks to Lauren Mayberry, we hear soaring notes in every song surely to give you some goose bumps. There are many facets to the album and the band, which makes for diverse music that draws in a wider audience. Overall, the album is definitely one to listen to, even if you may think it’s not your cup of tea. “Every Open Eye” is a new take on music and deserves an A because of it.
