Allen Tennis

For the first time in Allen tennis history, the team sent a boys and mixed doubles team to the 5A State Tennis Tournament. Senior Josh McKinney and junior Dillon Pineda came in second in the boys doubles tournament, losing in the state finals against Memorial’s Ciro Lampasas and Sam Giammalva in straight sets (6-2, 7-6[3]).

“We weren’t expecting to get that far, but we kept on working and the work paid off,” McKinney said.

The team also sent the mixed doubles team of senior Dayton Hancock and junior Nicole Goodman, who advanced to the semifinals of the tournament before losing to Will Drumwright and T.J. Fumagalli from New Braunfels (6-3, 7-5).

“None of us thought we were gonna make it,” Hancock said. Me and my partner were a relatively new team so we had high expectations, but not that high and we completely surprised ourselves and everybody else.”

Head coach Justin Quest said that he is proud of what his players have accomplished to school year.

“It was unreal. It’s been just a fantastic year of firsts,” head coach Justin Quest said. “To qualify not one but two teams for the first time in Allen’s history, was magnificent. To have those guys win two rounds and win a round and have a chance really to win bring a state championships home was an awesome feeling, not only for them, but for me and for all of us as a program.”

Congrats to those players, Coach Quest and entire team for making history at Allen this year.
