Journalism Students See Success in CenTex Virtual Meet

During the week of January 11-15, 12 Allen High School advanced journalism students competed in the annual CenTex Virtual Invitational Meet hosted by Texas UIL/Interscholastic League Press Conference and Texas Association of Journalism Educators.

The following students earned top-10 places in the following categories:

  • Copy Editing:
    • 3rd Place: Colin Campbell
    • 6th Place: Gisselle Alvillar
    • 9th Place: Alessio Haro
  • Editorial Writing:
    • 2nd Place: Paige James
    • 10th Place: Kennedy Jackson
  • Headline Writing:
    • 10 Place: Lilly Arnold

Additionally, the following students competed in the meet, earning valuable experience for future contests:

  • Khushboo Amarnani
  • Abigail Marines
  • Kentaya Nettles
  • Reagan Valenta

More than 1,500 students competed state-wide in this first meet of the semester, hosted virtually on individual high school campuses. In our division, AHS competed against 109 other students from Bellaire HS (Houston ISD), Chisholm Trail HS (Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD), Vandegrift HS (Leander ISD), and McKinney HS (McKinney ISD).
