Pregame Preview: Plano at Allen

In a battle between two of the most notable high school football teams in the state of Texas: the Allen Eagles will face the Plano Wildcats at Eagle Stadium on Oct. 13. Allen has an all-time series lead of 16-6 when facing Plano.

Plano finished last season with an overall record of 4-6 and a district record of 2-5. The Wildcats have won a total of seven state titles, last winning in 1994. Allen has only won four titles, with Allen’s most recent win coming in 2014.

The Wildcats run game has been a major threat to defenses, led by junior runningback Kyron Cumby. Cumby has rushed for 604 yards and 10 touchdowns on just 45 attempts.

Plano’s leading passer is senior Jonathan Taylor who has thrown for 441 yards and four touchdowns against three interceptions with a completion rate of 56 percent. Taylor has also managed to get 198 yards on the ground with two touchdowns. They are coming to Allen at full speed as the Wildcats have won four of their first five games by a combined score of 176-130.

Allen enters this game ranked as the number one team in the state of Texas and ranked no. 13 in the country by Maxpreps. The Eagles defense has been phenomenal so far this season, only allowing 48 total points through five games. Allen got their first shutout last week, beating Plano West with a score of 59-0.

With Allen’s defense being stout all season, their offense finally found their rhythm against the Wolves last week. Junior quarterback Grant Tisdale and senior quarterback Ian Davis managed to throw for a combined 300 yards with a combined five touchdowns. Junior wide receiver Theo Wease managed to snag nine grabs for 135 yards and three touchdowns. Senior running back Brock Sturges plowed his way through the Wolves defense, rushing for a total of 144 on 18 attempts for two touchdowns.
