Ethel Cain is a character created by Hayden Silas Anhedonia, a 27-year-old indie and alternative artist from Florida. She has been writing music under her character’s name for around six years now, creating an immersive world and backstory for Ethel Cain.
Preachers Daughter (2022) is the album that explores the major points of Cain’s life. Ethel Cain was born to Joseph and Vera Cain and lived in Shady Grove, Alabama. The story of Preacher’s Daughter takes place 10 years after Joseph died — Ethel is now a young adult. Ethel realizes her faith in the church is sparse and has developed a drinking problem as a way to cope from the stress, sorrow and guilt in her life.
