Allen Pulls Away Late in Win Over Coppell

The Allen Eagles took down the formerly undefeated Coppell Cowboys by a score of 35 to 23.

The Eagles and the Cowboys played a close and exciting game that went down to the wire. Though both teams put up a great fight, Allen pulled away in the fourth quarter with the win.

While senior running back Brock Sturges carried the load for Allen’s rushing attack with 157 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns, the highlight for the offense was the passing game. Junior quarterback Grant Tisdale had his best game of the season going 10/14 passing for 204 yards and 3 touchdowns with no turnovers. On top of that, Tisdale rushed for a total of 98 yards.

However, Tisdale couldn’t have done this without the help of his receivers. Junior receiver Theo Wease finished the game as the top receiver with five receptions for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Tisdale also Spread the ball around well, with five different receivers tallying a reception.

The deep ball was also a huge factor in the victory. Senior receiver Carson Schleker scored the first touchdown on a 67-yard pass from Tisdale. In the second quarter, Wease scored the next touchdown on a 49-yard reception.

One of the big difference makers in the game was Allen’s defense in the red zone. Although the Eagles allowed 23 points, most of those were from the four field goals kicked by Coppell. Allen’s success with stopping the Cowboy’s near the end zone prevented what could have been an upset.

One notable stop was an interception made in the red zone by senior defensive back Taj Bickham in the fourth quarter. When this took place, Allen was up 21-20. This late turnover prevented a field goal attempt from Coppell’s kicker, who hit a 51-yard field goal earlier in the game.

Allen did have some trouble with penalties throughout the game, ending with 10 penalties which cost a total of 90 yards.

With their bye week coming next Friday, the Eagles will take on division rival McKinney Boyd on 29 September for the Homecoming game at Eagle Stadium. Follow The Eagle Angle on Twitter @theeagleangle in order to stay up with all the action.
