Fight Song Lyrics Contest

At an Allen High School football game, one can always look forward to the halftime fight song. The band spells “Eagles” on the field as the entire audience rises to clap along, but nobody sings along- not because people don’t know the words, but because there aren’t any words to sing along to.

Not for long. Allen High School is holding a contest to write lyrics to go along with the fight song.

“I’ve worked at Allen High School for twelve years, and as long as I’ve been here, there’s never been any lyrics” said Karen Helton, House 700 Attendance Clerk. “Last year I started thinking about some words, and I took it to the district, and they made it into a contest.”

The chosen lyrics will be honored by being presented at the first football game next season with the author’s name next to them, and will be sung every time the fight song is played.

“It takes a little time to sit down and actually write the lyrics, and get them to fit the song, but I hope that people take the time to enter.” said Helton. “It would just a fun thing to do.”

Anyone who writes lyrics can enter them here. The deadline for entry is Jan. 31.
