“I can only hope that America realizes that love will always trump hate.”

“Being a senior, going into college next year, and pursuing a career in the FBI made me feel so strongly about this election. I am struggling with the emotions that have come with the election of Trump as our next president. I am worried one day I will stutter as I try to find the words to explain to my daughter why her country voted for a man who degrades women so openly, so vulgarly. I am sad because one day I will have to reassure my children that even though they are minorities, as I am Hispanic, they are equal to every other kid, despite their country voting for a man who led his campaign on racist beliefs. I am stressed, because one day I will try to raise children who are humble, who love and respect others, who treat humans and animals and nature with kindness and compassion, in a country who voted for an ill, short-tempered man that wants to segregate and deport others. I am furious, as someone who works as a coach for special needs children and loves them to no end, that my country voted for a man who mocked a disabled reporter.

I know I can not change the results of last night. I am aware that my opinion may not necessarily change that of others. I’m also aware that you may completely disagree with me. However, what I do hope for is that the next four years and whatever impact he may have on our futures, are not filled with the hate that he led his campaign with. This election brought out the “true colors” of a country that has a lot of catching up to do, and I can only hope that America realizes that love will always trump hate. Hopefully we see a more compassionate Trump in the next 4 years. It was obviously God’s plan.”
