Review: Sunshine Cupcakes

Sunshine Cupcakes is a cupcake shop that opened November of 2014. The shop is located by the Target on McDermott Drive. Sunshine Cupcakes is not run or owned by a professional baker, but just someone who has a passion for baking.

Every cupcake they produce is made by the owner’s original recipe. Each cupcake has its own cu
te name along with it, like the wedding cake flavored cupcake cleverly titled “I Do” and the red velvet cupcake titled “Heartthrob.” I chose the pumpkin flavored cupcake, which is only offered in the fall. It was very rich in flavor with the pumpkin and cinnamon combined. The cream cheese frosting made the cupcake sweet to balance the strong pumpkin flavor. The cupcake did not make me too entirely full; it was very light, leaving me to want another.

The bakery was decorated very elegantly. The walls were covered in a yellow design wallpaper to incorporate the store’s name, “Sunshine Cupcakes.” Also, something that I liked was that there was a vase of flowers on each table, making the small space seem bright and airy. The service there was very welcoming. The owners brought our cupcakes out on plates and made sure we were comfortable the whole time. In the bakery they also offered frosted, hand-decorated cookies and coffee.

During my experience at Sunshine Cupcakes there was a mother with a young son that visited to ask if they made and decorated birthday cakes. To my surprise, the answer was no. I believe if they were to broaden their talents to birthday cakes or wedding cakes, their business could grow a lot further.

Overall I give Sunshine Cupcakes a B for their delicious, unique flavors and welcoming service. I would improve the bakery by adding more of a variety to their options. Sunshine Cupcakes was a beautifully decorated place for delicious cupcakes and cookies.
