Nini’s Top 10- week of Jan. 19

  1. Fox announced Lea Michele and Ariana Grande will be joining Ryan Murphy’s new comedy-horror show “Scream Queen,” set to premiere in the fall. Other stars include Jamie Lee Curtis, Emma Roberts, Abigail Breslin and Keke Palmer.
  2. Founder of rap group A$AP Mob, A$AP Yams passed away on Jan. 18. Other members of the group, A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ferg, mourned over the lost of their friend and creative influence. The cause of death is unknown though speculated to be a drug overdose.
  3. There’s nothing better than a nice ballad from You Blew It!, emo revival band. The band, known for their emo-punk songs, went for a softer sound for their track “Your Side.” The song will be included in their upcoming EP, “Pioneer of Nothing,” to be released on Jan. 27.
  4. Trust no one but me and Fox’s executives when I say that “The X-Files” may be coming back. That’s right, original director Chris Carter announced a reboot of the popular television series is in the making. I want to believe that it will be as amazing as the original.
  5. I’m not exactly sure how many other vinyl-collectors there are in the world, but worry not my peers — a Netflix for vinyl is here. VYNL is a website dedicated to renting out records and has everything from FKA Twigs to Fleetwood Mac to Stevie Wonder. I hope this catches on because I may end up using VYNL more than Netflix.
  6. Thank goodness for Mateo Ysmael. The 15-year-old saved rapper Lil B and six other people from dying in a burning apartment on Jan. 15. Some of Lil B’s clothes and music were destroyed in the fire, but luckily no one was harmed.
  7. Emo gods Fall Out Boy have announced a summer tour featuring Wiz Khalifa and Hoodie Allen. The band will be promoting their upcoming album, “American Beauty/American Psycho,” out Jan. 20. The Dallas date is July 25. You’ll probably see me there, crying as usual. I’m just as emo as this band.
  8. I honestly don’t know what his staff was thinking but speaker of the House John Boehner, or his staff at least, used Taylor Swift gifs and puns to complain about President Obama’s free community college plan. “60 billion dollars is a lot of money…you can’t just shake it off.” Those poorly done puns are one of the many reasons why I’m not a Republican.
  9. Go go Power Rangers. Casting and filming for a live-action Power Rangers will commence this year and the film should hopefully be out on July 22, 2016. Let’s rejoice for this massive throwback.
  10. Zooey Deschanel and Jacob Pechenik are expecting a baby this summer. Their child will be the quirkiest baby ever and will probably learn how to play the ukulele and interpret indie films before he/she can even read.
