Nini’s Top 10- week of Monday Dec. 1

That’s right, folks. Nini Truong is back and here to give you the top ten most interesting tidbits of entertainment news for the week.

  1. Frank Ocean has been basically hiding in the ocean since his 2012 album, “Channel Orange.” But on Nov. 28 Ocean broke his silence and released a snippet of “Memrise.” So far, he hasn’t commented on what he’s doing next with the song and if this signifies that a new album is on the horizon, but for now I am enjoying the soft, almost-shoegaze sound of the track.
  2. Maybe it’s a little too soon to get excited for music that will probably come out late 2015 but Mayday Parade announced that they will begin recording for their fifth studio album in March. After listening to their 2013 album “Monsters in the Closet” 3,429,472 times, I’m pretty ready for another album filled with pop rock goodness.
  3. Two forces come together and create a masterpiece. Haim and Bastille teamed up and released “Bite Down,” a track that will be featured on Bastille’s mixtape “VS (Other People’s Heartache Pt. III),” out Dec. 10. The track is absolutely amazing and powerful and I would love to hear the two groups collaborate again in the future.
  4. Have memes gone too far? On Nov. 29, the Grumpy Cat film premiered on Lifetime. Titled “Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever,” the holiday film stars “Parks and Recreation’s” Aubrey Plaza as the voice of Grumpy Cat and shows how even in a cute Christmas film, memes are still trite and overused. Grumpy Cat is still pretty cute though.
  5. On Dec. 12, Netflix will release “Marco Polo,” a new series detailing the life and times of the famous explorer. While the series does appeal to my inner history dork, what really caught my eye was the price tag. According to Business Insider, “Marco Polo” will go down in history as one of the most expensive TV series of all time – the budget is $90 million to produce ten episodes. I could really use that to pay for my college tuition but instead I’ll get a cool new show to binge watch.
  6. Abigail Breslin has moved past “Little Miss Sunshine” and “My Sister’s Keeper” and has released her musical debut, “You Suck.” The track, directed toward her ex-boyfriend 5 Seconds of Summer’s Michael Clifford, discusses how she feels about the band’s music (“I said you sound like All Time Low/You really don’t/Even though you try hard/You try hard”), how attractive she finds him (“I just wanted you to know/All your band mates are hotter than you”) and how she feels toward him currently (“And all that I wanna say/Is you really suck”).
  7. If you’re starting to get tired of singing “Let it Go” and “Do You Want to Build a Snowman,” do not fret. A sequel to “Frozen” may possibly be in the works according to Idina Menzel. In an interview with The Telegraph, Menzel confirms that the animated short, the Broadway adaption and the sequel are coming along and that she is involved with the short and the sequel. Thank God for this because I don’t think I can take another group of adolescents bursting into song every time I tell someone to “let it go.”
  8. The promo video for the 2015 Golden Globes was released on Nov. 27 and feature co-hosts/goddesses Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. The Golden Globes will be on Jan. 11 but the mere thought of seeing the dynamic duo cracking jokes in an award show setting will get me through finals and whatever else the holiday season decides to throw at me.
  9. On a more serious note, Bill Cosby’s alma mater University of Massachusetts at Amhearst decided to sever ties with the actor amid all the sexual assault allegations. According to Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley “the volume of and disturbing nature of these allegations has reached a point where Mr. Cosby should no longer have a formal role at UMass .”
  10. So on Nov. 28, 2014, something kind of holy and sacred happened. The trailer for “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens” dropped and announced that the film will be in theatres on Dec. 15 2015. It has been nine years since the last film and now only a year remains.
