24 students place at advance to regionals

On March 24 and 25, the UIL Academics Spring Meet took place at Allen High School with the school winning second place overall.

The Friday and Saturday competitions included academic competitions in math, science and writing.

“[The competitions] are subject-based, so if a student has a strength in a math or a science, you can choose what’s best for you,” UIL coordinator Gail Mehno said.

Twenty-four Allen students in 13 different competitions advanced to the regional meet at UT Arlington on April 8.

“We look forward to [advancing] in any event, and the students are good and well-qualified enough to advance,” Mehno said. “I think they find pride in being able to do what they do in the name of Allen High School.”
