The athletics program has already had one major change this past year with football head coach Terry Gambill taking over for Tom Westerberg. Joining the list of newcomers is Kim Fullerton, who is the new head coach of the Allen boy’s soccer team.
“As a first year coach, I hope to establish a structure that can provide a pathway to building and maintaining an excellent men’s soccer program at AHS,” Fullerton said.
Fullerton was most recently the head soccer coach at Irving Nimitz High School before his arrival in Allen. During his four years in Irving, he led the team to four straight playoff appearances and emerged from two of those playoff berths with championship wins. He also won district coach of the year in 2013 and 2014.
“Our primary goal this season is get back to the playoffs and to win a few postseason games,” Fullerton said. “Hopefully we can also challenge for the district title.”
The team has started off this season with a record of 5-2-5, and are sitting at number 121 overall in the state rankings according to Maxpreps. After last year’s record of 6-9-5, the team will be faced with the challenge of improving upon aspects of their former season.
“We are very talented, however I expect to grow and learn as a team and to get better every game,” Fullerton said. “I expect to continue to build on the Allen High School tradition of producing an excellent soccer program.”
The team’s next game will be on Friday, Feb. 3 at home against Denton Guyer.
