Eagle’s Look for Another Playoff Push

After the Eagles deep playoff runs the past two years, they will look to break through and reach their ultimate goal of state.

“The greatest thing about baseball is that anything can change with just one hit or pitch; no other sport is like that. Rally’s start that can’t be explained and that is why the game is so exciting,” said Danny Sigler.

Senior varsity pitcher Danny Sigler has been playing baseball since he was five and is ready for another great season before he heads off to the University of Oklahoma as a business major. Eagle Baseball officially started their season on Feb. 10, and have played their way to a record of 2-2 in district since, which is good for fifth.

“My favorite part of Allen Baseball so far was when Coach Coe told me I was on varsity and gave me my gear,” Sigler said. “I will never forget that.”

That is what baseball does; it creates memories and opportunities for athletes. Four seniors caught the eyes of college scouts and signed to play college baseball. They are: Jacob Stramel to Newman University, Andy McEachern to Oklahoma Wesleyan, Dylan Paul to the University of Texas at Arlington and JP Casey to Southern Arkansas University.

Allen has seen the third round of the playoffs these last two years and this year will look to break through. Led by key seniors Kyler Murray, Danny Sigler and Andy McEachern, they will look to finally break through and reach greatness.

“We want to be noticed like the basketball and football teams,” Sigler said. “We want people to say “Hey you going to the baseball game this weekend?’ We just want the fans to come out and support us.”

And that is a reasonable goal. The varsity team has made the playoffs twice and will keep pushing to make it three in a row, their own three-peat.

“I like baseball more than any sport because the game is slower and you have to think before every play,” Junior varsity pitcher Ty Chezem said. “There are battles between each individual hitter and pitcher which makes it fun.”

Allen plays in one of the toughest divisions in Texas, and teams always target them because of the “Allen” on their jerseys.

“Teams always want to beat us because we beat them in football,” Sigler said. “Allen gets the reputation that any team is as good as the football team so we need to go out there and play as hard as we can to defend that.”

Being in Texas, high school sports revolve around football, but that shouldn’t take away from any of the other sports.

“This team has the ability to win well more than enough games to make the playoffs. We practice and each day we keep getting better and there isn’t a reason we can’t go far into the playoffs again,” Chezem said.

As the team moves on and fights for that playoff spot, all fans should come out and support the team.

“We just want to be noticed more and change the mentality of Allen baseball to show everyone what we are capable of,” Sigler said. “We are a scrappy team and when we are hitting well we are unstoppable.”
