Road to Glory

The Allen Wrestling team had one goal and one only, to win another state championship. So when the team won yet another state championship the team knew that they had made a statement.

The road to state was a long journey for the team as they had to first qualify for regionals. Fourteen guys went to districts to compete for a spot in Regionals and 13 of them made it to the finals including Senior Daniel Caragena at 152 and freshman Logan Brown at 106. This sets up a strong lineup for the team going into regionals.

With many workouts and hard conditioning, coach Jerry Best has not been light on the team before regionals. In front of their own soil the eagles qualified 13 wrestlers for the State Tournament, scoring a record high 345 points to win the Regionals 2 tournament. Also two girls, freshman Alex Liles finished first and Freshman Sierra Brown finished second qualifying for state

At state the competition was tough and the opposing teams would not let up including Arlington Martin and El Paso Franklin. In a dominating fashion the team came together and had four state champs, including Senior Garrett Miller at 180 and Junior Dalton Miller at 170. The girls had a great season as well as Liles got state championship and was undefeated and declared most outstanding wrestler of the girls tournament.

The team can celebrate having yet a 6th state championship, but they are not satisfied with that. They continue to push on and get yet another state championship for next year.
