Spring: A time for new music, movies, drama

10. Lil Wayne, in an interview with MTV, has stated that “The Carter V” will be his final album. At the age of 31, he plans on retiring from his successful rap empire to spend more time with his kids and work on bigger and better projects. You played the game well, Lil Wayne. The album is set to be released on May 5.

9. Speaking of rap, if you’re a fan of rap and electronic then this album is going to be awesome Daft Punk and Jay Z have collaborated on the single “Computerized.” Technically the song was supposed to be a part of the “Tron: Legacy” soundtrack but the legends held it off and dropped the track on March 11. It was pretty kind of them to grace us with this song instead of keeping it hidden away.

8. Pulling a Beyonce, Skrillex dropped his brand new album, “Recess,” out of nowhere on March 11. The album features everyone from Kill the Noise to G-Dragon. Make sure you don’t have health problems because the bass drops on this album will be sure to leave your heart racing for hours to come.

7. Lana Del Rey announced a U.S. tour on March 10. The indie-hipster queen will be embarking on a 19-date tour and will hit Grand Prairie on April 23. There has yet to be a word on the opening act, but tickets go on sale March 14. Happy Hunger Games. The tour will also complement her upcoming album, “Ultraviolence,” expected to be out May 1.

6. If anyone’s going to be at British music festival Reading and Leeds this summer, then be sure to watch out for the newly announced headliners, Paramore and Queens of the Stone Age. Along with those two bands will be Blink-182, Arctic Monkeys, Vampire Weekend, Imagine Dragons and many more. If you do go, I hope you realize that I’m incredibly jealous of you.

5. Up for an action movie night with your friends? Well, go see “Need for Speed,” out March 14. Instead of making meth, “Need for Speed” star Aaron Paul races cars. Fasten your seatbelts, folks. You’ll be in for one heck of a ride.

4. Voice actor Hal Douglas passed away on March 13. Credited for “Titanic,” “Forrest Gump” and “Meet the Parents,” Douglas graced Hollywood with some legendary films. He died due to pancreatic cancer and will be greatly missed. I will always remember him for his unique voice.

3. It’s here. It’s here. It’s finally here. Well, sort of. Photos for season two of “Orange is the New Black” have been released, and it looks like it’s going to be one wild season. Everyone’s favorite women’s prison will be hosting some hilarious adventures and drama. The season will be released on Netflix on June 6, so I’ll set an entire day out to watch these ladies.

2. Remember how a couple years ago there was a giant influx of Alice in Wonderland related merchandise at Hot Topic? Well, be prepared for another influx because Tim Burton has confirmed a sequel set for a spring 2016 release. The movie was a guilty pleasure of mine; I mean, who could resist that cinematic photography? Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter will return as Alice, the Mad Hatter and the Red Queen, respectively.

1. TMZ leaked footage of Justin Bieber’s deposition that took place on March 6. Prosecuting lawyers questioned him about his bodyguard assaulting the paparazzi. During the deposition, he behaved rather rudely to the lawyer who was only trying to do his job and Bieber replied with curt and sarcastic answers. In his defense, though, the lawyer was asking questions about his relationship with Selena Gomez, something irrelevant to the case.
